Newly re-elected AFC and FIFA Council Member and PFF president Mariano Araneta was appointed by the AFC Executive Committee as the Chairperson of the Organising Committee for the AFC Asian Cup 2023 during the first AFC Executive Committee meeting in Manama, Bahrain.
The Organising Committee for AFC Asian Cup advises and assists the AFC Executive Committee on matters relating to the AFC Asian Cup™ and is responsible for organizing the flagship national team competition of Asia.
Previously, Araneta was appointed as AFC Finance Committee chairperson on two successive terms, from 2015-2019 and 2019-2023.
“I accept the appointment of the AFC Executive Committee to be the Chairperson of the Organising Committee for the AFC Asian Cup 2023,” said Araneta. “I thank the leadership of the AFC led by Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa for the trust and opportunity to help oversee with the other members of the committee the continent’s showpiece competition, the AFC Asian Cup. I am looking forward to work with Asian football’s stakeholders to ensure that the staging of the Asian Cup will be a success.
