AFC Women’s OQT: Philippines 8-0 Tajikistan

HISOR – The Philippines crushed Tajikistan, 8-0, last Saturday night to inch closer to the second round of AFC Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

The Filipinas put six goals past the hosts in the first half before substitute Chandler McDaniel grabbed a second half brace to increase her tally to three goals in the first round of qualifying.

The win pushed the Filipinas tally to six points, ahead of Hong Kong on goal difference.

Hong Kong beat Pakistan, 2-0, earlier in the day, making the match against the Philippines on Tuesday a playoff for a spot in the next round.

Sofia Harrison opened the scoring in the 26th minute, latching unto a cross from the right. It was 2-0 two minutes later with captain Tahnai Annis firing into an empty net, before Carleigh Frilles added a third three minutes later.

Annis set up Quinley Quezada’s point blank header in the 35th minute and Meryll Serrano recorded the Filipinas fifth with a clinical finish off a fine ball from Sara Eggesvik.

The Filipinas grabbed one more before the break as Maya Alcantara got on the scoresheet.

Coach Alen Stajcic brought in four substitutes at the break, including McDaniel who fired the seventh goal off a low cross from Frilles.

The Filipinas proved unrelenting even with their comfortable lead as McDaniel chipped the ball past the Tajikistan keeper Gulova Minisa to complete the rout.
