Overview:
The Head of Legal is responsible for providing legal services to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 LLC, including but not limited to the drafting and negotiation of a wide range of contracts impacting the Tournament, and the provision of legal advice on commercial, legislative and intellectual property issues. Ensures FWCQ2022 LLC understanding of the specific legal framework that needs to be respected (existing agreements, laws etc.) in its capacity as organiser of the FWC and the proper application of national and international laws.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing legal advice and assistance to the FWCQ2022 LLC internal stakeholders
- Scoping, drafting and negotiation of the FWCQ2022 LLC, contracts where required – including procurement of goods and services, tenders, venue hire, ceremonies, broadcasting and media, confidentiality, sponsorship, licensing, employment, Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs)
- Educating and advising internal stakeholders on legal implications impacted by their proposed activities, and providing legal recommendations and legal problem solving for proposed activities
- Operate and work within the agreed legal policies and practices set for the FWCQ2022 LLC
- Provide support to the FWCQ2022 LLC as required and as determined by the needs of the organisation.
- Where necessary, liaise with and manage the provision of external legal advice
- Review and update existing contractual precedents.
- Rendering advice on protection of intellectual property, patents and trademarks.
- Assist in formulating and implementing policies and procedures in relation to contract management.
- Administer contractual management processes where required.
- Where necessary act as a legal liaison with stakeholders including Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy on issues such as enabling legislation.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A minimum experience of 8 years experience as a legal practitioner, including experience and exposure to contract law. Proven experience in intellectual property law.
- University degree in appropriate subject (or adequate training/vocational education)
- B or J.D. from a recognized University
- Formal qualification in law with a license to practice law in a recognized legal jurisdiction
- Experience in international sports / event management
- Knowledge of even planning and event project management processes
- Experience or knowledge of local culture will be an added benefit
- Strong IT skill including MS Office (Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint)
- Fluency in English and other languages are an added benefit
- Positive attitude, patience and persistence.
- Proven track record in managing complex projects, preferably international sports events.
- Minimum of 6 years managing teams within the specified business area.
