PFF celebrates AFC Women’s Day with Aspiring Futsaleras and Philippine Women’s National Futsal Team

The Philippine Football Federation ignited a wave of inspiration among young girls with its Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Football Day celebration, held on Saturday at San Francisco High School, Quezon City. The event, a vibrant display of skill and passion, directly connected the Philippine Women’s National Futsal Team with 60 young female futsal aspirants, sparking dreams and showcasing the possibilities within the sport.

More than just a training session, the event served as a powerful platform for empowerment, demonstrating to the girls that with training, hard work, and dedication, their dreams were within reach.

Participants from San Francisco High School, Bonifacio Memorial Elementary School, Melencio Castelo Elementary School, and Carlos P. Garcia High School had the unique opportunity to learn from and interact with the national team members, who have represented the flag in several international competitions.

Under the guidance of former national team member and coach, Marigen Ariel, the girls participated in a comprehensive training session, followed by an exhilarating mini-futsal tournament. The tournament, structured in a single round-robin format, allowed the girls to showcase their skills and teamwork, with awards presented by PUMA Philippines, adding to the excitement.

The true highlight of the event was the presence of the Philippine Women’s National Futsal Team members, including Vrendelle Nuera and Regine Rebosura. These athletes didn’t just demonstrate their skills; they shared their personal journeys, offering invaluable encouragement and illustrating that a professional futsal career was a possible goal. By sharing their experiences, the national team members hoped to inspire these young girls to pursue their futsal dreams with renewed determination and focus.

“We are incredibly proud to celebrate AFC Women’s Football Day with these talented young athletes,” said PFF President John Gutierrez. “The presence and engagement of our national team members made a significant impact, showing these young girls what they can achieve. This event underscores our commitment to promoting women’s sports and providing opportunities for young girls to excel in athletics. We believe that sports play a crucial role in building confidence, character, and leadership skills.”

Further solidifying its commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment for young athletes, PFF, in collaboration with Lennon Group, initiated the Safe to Play campaign as part of its legacy program as host of the inaugural FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup 2025, scheduled from November 21 to December 7, 2025.
