House of Representatives Commends Philippine Men’s National Football Team for Valiant Draw Against Tajikistan

The House of Representatives of the Philippines on Thursday formally commended the Philippine Men’s National Football Team for their hard-fought 2-2 draw against Tajikistan in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers match held on June 10, 2025, at the New Clark City Stadium through House Resolution No. 2340.

The resolution, introduced by Representative Antonio “Tonypet” T. Albano, recognized the team’s exceptional resolve and determination in the face of a formidable opponent. The match was highlighted by the standout performance of Bjorn Martin Kristensen, who delivered a remarkable brace, securing the crucial draw and keeping the Philippines firmly in contention for a coveted slot in the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.

“Whereas, the match stands as a symbol of perseverance and growth of Philippine football, demonstrating that even in the face of formidable opposition, Filipino athletes can rise, adapt, and respond with courage and capability,” the resolution stated.

The House Resolution emphasized that the Philippine Men’s National Football Team, by holding their ground, “once again brought honor to the country, reminding Filipinos that the road to greatness is not always marked by wins alone, but also by courage, consistency, and the refusal to back down.”

The draw was still deemed a significant milestone that keeps the Philippines’ dream alive for qualification to the AFC Asian Cup 2027 and sustains the pursuit of further growth in international football. 

This commendation from the House of Representatives underscores the growing support and recognition for Philippine football and its athletes, inspiring them to continue striving for excellence on the international stage.

The Philippine Men’s National Football Team will continue their AFC Asian Cup bid on October 9 and 14, 2025, with back-to-back matches against Timor-Leste, to be followed by their matches against Maldives and Tajikistan on November 18, 2025, and March 31, 2026, respectively.
