BANDUNG — The Philippine Men’s National Football Team (PMNFT) settled for a 2-2 draw against Pakistan in their third match of the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup — Elite Division at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium, after a dominant first-half performance was interrupted by an extended halftime break due to rain that gave Pakistan the opening to regroup and equalize.
PMNFT started the match on the front foot, creating pressure early through Bjorn Kristensen and Andre Leipold. In the 5th minute, Kristensen forced a save off a Leipold through pass, and Leipold himself tested Pakistani goalkeeper Yousuf Butt twice in quick succession in the 12th and 14th minutes.
The pressure paid off in the 25th minute when Sandro Reyes scored on the rebound after Fasah Soliman’s clearance of a Kristensen shot fell into his path — his sixth international goal, putting the Philippines ahead.
Pakistan responded with a legitimate threat in the final third, as forward Ali Akbar Khan forced a save from Filipino goalkeeper Kevin Ray Mendoza in the 28th minute.
Moments later, Soliman blocked a Paul Tabinas strike in the box before Mohammad Fazal was penalized for a handball inside the penalty area in the 30th minute.
Kristensen converted the resulting penalty in the 32nd minute for his 14th international goal, matching club legend Paulino Alcantara’s tally and moving into a tie for fourth on the Philippines’ all-time scoring list.
Haris Zeb denied Leipold a third goal moments later, blocking a header on target in the 34th minute.
With PMNFT ahead 2-0 and dictating the tempo, the halftime break lasted roughly 30 minutes due to rain, a break that proved costly for the Philippines’ momentum.
Pakistan came out of the delay with renewed intensity, pulling one back just two minutes into the second half when Khan scored off a long ball from captain Abdullah Iqbal in the 47th minute.
Hayyaan Khattak nearly doubled the tally moments later, his 49th-minute effort narrowly missing the target. Still, Pakistan’s aggression on the counter continued to trouble the Philippine defense.
In the 62nd minute, Abdul Shahzad intercepted the ball from Jesper Nyholm in midfield and ran through alone to level the score at 2-2.
PMNFT pushed for a response in the closing stages.
Randy Schneider’s 67th-minute effort went wide, while Mohib Ullah denied Tabinas inside the box in the 81st minute.
Substitute forward Jarvey Gayoso had two set-piece attempts blocked by the Pakistani defense in the 83rd minute, and Cole Mrowka’s strike from the middle of the box was blocked by Soliman in the 90th minute as the match ended level.
The result sees both teams earn a point each. The Philippines sits in third place in Group B on superior goal difference.
PMNFT will close the group stage versus Thailand on October 2, 2026, at 5:00 PM (Philippine time), also at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung.
