The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) welcomed with deep appreciation the adoption of House Resolution No. 580 by the Philippine House of Representatives, formally congratulating and commending the Philippine women’s national football team for their successful qualification to the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup.
Adopted upon the recommendation of the House Committee on Youth and Sports Development, chaired by Rep. Faustino Michael Carlos T. Dy III, the resolution recognizes the Filipinas’ undefeated campaign in Group G of the qualifiers held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia from June 23 to July 5, 2025. The team won all three matches, scored ten goals, and conceded none, underscoring their discipline, preparation, and competitive maturity on the continental stage
The resolution, authored by Representatives Charisse Anne C. Hernandez (Calamba), Faustino Michael Carlos T. Dy III (Isabela, 5th District), Edsel A. Galeos (Cebu, 2nd District), Renee Louise M. Co (Kabataan PL), and Niko Raul S.J. Daza (Northern Samar, 1st District), also cited the leadership of team captain Hali Long and head coach Mark Torcaso, and acknowledged the broader impact of sustained institutional support and grassroots development in women’s football.
“The Filipinas’ outstanding performance in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 qualifiers not only secured their position among Asia’s elite teams but also solidified the Philippines’ emergence as a formidable contender on the global stage of women’s football,” House Resolution No. 580 stated.
PFF President John Anthony Gutierrez expressed gratitude to the House for its strong and timely show of support. “On behalf of the Philippine Football Federation, I sincerely thank the House of Representatives for honoring the Filipinas through House Resolution No. 580. This recognition affirms that our women’s national team carries the pride and backing of the Filipino people in their pursuit for excellence,” Gutierrez said.
With the Filipinas set to compete in the SEA Games gold medal match against defending champions Vietnam on Wednesday, Gutierrez emphasized that the congressional commendation on their Asian Cup qualification serves as added motivation to win the Philippines’ first ever gold in SEA Games football.
“As they step onto the field for the SEA Games final, we hope the team draws strength from this moment. The entire nation believes in them, and we are united behind one goal: bringing home the gold,” he added.
