PFF President John Anthony Gutierrez highlighted the significance of the friendly: “This international friendly against Uzbekistan is an opportunity for the Filipinas to measure themselves against another Asian Cup-qualified side. It will allow the team to fine-tune their system and build chemistry ahead of next year’s World Cup qualifying campaign in Australia,” he stated. The match is also an important step in preparing the team for the “difficult challenge of facing Australia, South Korea, and Iran in the Asian Cup”.
The Uzbekistan team, ranked 52nd in the world , is a challenging opponent, having recently secured their spot in the 2026 Asian Cup and reaching the final qualification stage of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Filipinas Head Coach Mark Torcaso acknowledged the quality of the opposition. “The game against Uzbekistan is a great challenge, as they have also qualified for the Asian cup and they are a very tough opponent,” said Coach Torcaso.
The friendly will cap off the Filipinas’ ten-day training camp in Manila. Coach Torcaso has assembled the training pool, noting the increasing depth of the squad with players returning from injury or absence.
