Impelido: Olympic Dream a Good Opportunity for Philippines WNT

Philippine Women’s National Team captain Patrice Impelido looked back on what has been a steady progress for women’s football in the country as the team prepares for the 2020 Olympic Football Tournament – Asian Qualifiers which begins this Wednesday, 3 Apil 2019.

The midfielder, who made her national team debut in 2005, has been part of several milestones having been part of the team that qualified for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup in 2018.

“It’s always an honor to represent the country, I’m glad to I’m still able to do it. It’s great seeing how women’s football has progressed in the Philippines,” said Impelido. “We’re still progressing and our country has been doing well in recent tournaments that’s why I’m happy.”

Despite missing out on a spot for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup France, Impelido sees the chance to play in the Olympics will bid well for the team.

“The Olympics will be a great opportunity for us and provide us with great exposure,” added the midfielder.

The Philippines will face IR Iran, Chinese Taipei, and Palestine in Group C. The top team at the end of the qualifiers will advance to the final round to be held next year.
