La Salle wins bronze as 2026 PWL closes

Three-time champion De La Salle University closed the 2026 PFF Women’s League (PWL) season by winning the bronze medal with seven points following a 1-1 draw against the University of the Philippines (UP) on Saturday at the Adidas Football Park, SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.

An equalizer by Chenny Dañoso from an outside shot to close the first half secured the podium finish for the Lady Booters, as the Fighting Maroons finally won a point with an early goal by Patricia Espinosa from a set piece in the fourth minute.

“To close the season with such a competitive game is a testament of the character of the Filipina footballer: that feisty, palaban spirit that brought us to back-to-back Women’s World Cup, and that spirit is being kindled here in PWL,” said PFF John Anthony Gutierrez.

Dañoso, who finished her season fifth in scoring with four goals, praised her teammates who “stepped up” following the absence of three key La Sallians–starting goalkeeper Jessica Pido, midfielder Maegan Alforque, and forward Dani Tanjangco–who were lined up by PWL champion Kaya FC-Iloilo for the 2026-27 AFC Women’s Champions League (AWCL) preliminary round in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

Kaya won their third consecutive PWL crown on August 11, amassing 21 points, while the Far Eastern University (FEU) Lady Tamaraws won the silver medal with 12 points.

Kaya has advanced to the AWCL group stage this November by topping the preliminary round Group B on Sunday while FEU, La Salle, and UP will compete in the upcoming UAAP Season 89, which will open on September 12.
