Para Sa Bayan, Not something you can read and learn from a textbook

On August 9, 2025, the Philippine Women’s National Football Team (PWNT) faced a formidable Australian squad in their second match of the ASEAN MSIG Serenity Cup in Vietnam.

Comprised of both young and veteran players, the Filipinas displayed remarkable resilience against Australia’s physically imposing and highly skilled lineup. They held their defense line for most of the first half, conceding a single goal in stoppage time.

Despite relentless pressure and physicality from Australia, the PWNT never backed down, fighting for every ball and every inch of the field for ninety minutes.

PWNT Head Coach Mark Torcaso praised his team’s performance, stating, “I’m very proud of every one of our players and the impact they’re having at the moment in this tournament.” He added that the team’s strong showing under pressure will prepare them for future games, expressing confidence that they can secure a win in their next match to qualify for the semifinals.

While the final score didn’t favor the Philippines, the match highlighted the squad’s tactical discipline and mental toughness.

Against a more experienced side, the Filipinas proved they could hold their own, earning the respect of everyone who watched.
