MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Women’s National Team is inching closer towards the dream of qualifying for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as they compete in the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Asian Qualifiers Round 2 in Doha, Qatar from 3-9 April 2019
The team will face IR Iran, Chinese Taipei, and Palestine in Group C.
In the first round held in Tajikistan last November 2018, the Philippines finished second in Group A with wins over Singapore (9-0), Tajikistan (3-1) and, Mongolia (5-1), while yielding a loss against Chinese Taipei (5-0).
“We wish the Philippine Women’s National Football Team the best of luck as they embark on another round of Olympic Qualifiers in the Asian region,” said PFF general secretary Atty. Edwin Gastanes.” Women’s football has come a long way and we hope the team builds on this ahead of the upcoming 30th Southeast Asian Games this November.”
The Olympic qualifiers is the first of at least three competitions for the Women’s National Team this year. The AFF Women’s Championship is set for August 2019 in Thailand and the 30th Southeast Asian Games in November 2019 in Manila.
Marnelli Dimzon is the head coach assisted by coaches Gerald Orcullo and Melo Sabacan.

23 players were called up for the tournament. The team left for Qatar this Monday, 1 April 2019.
