Three nations Women’s Futsal Tournament kicks off on October 18

The Philippine Football Federation (PFF), together with the Henry V. Moran Foundation, announces the hosting of the PFF Women’s Tri-Nation Futsal Invitational 2023 to be held on 18-22 October 2023 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila.

The three-nations meet will be the second international futsal event in the country after the PFF successfully hosted the Pinay5 Face-off last year wherein the Philippine Women’s Futsal National Team collected one win and one loss against Guam Women’s Futsal National Team.

Joining the Philippines in this year’s tri-nations tournament are Indonesia and New Zealand, and will see the teams play at least three matches.

PFF president Mariano Araneta and general secretary Mikhail Torre sees the tournament as stepping stone in developing futsal in the country.

“We are delighted to host this upcoming PFF Women’s Tri-Nation Futsal Invitational,” said Araneta. “Over the past two years, futsal development has made strides by focusing on grassroots development which allowed the honing of both futsal players and referees. The hosing of the tournament is the result of the work done by the PFF Futsal Department, in collaboration with the Henry V. Moran Foundation, in fostering the growth of the sport in the country, and we hope that all stakeholders and fans come to support the Women’s Futsal National Team.”

“Futsal has a strong appeal to Filipinos owing to its fast-paced playing style, and the PFF Futsal Department has made strides in ensuring the growth of the sport in the country.” added Torre. “The upcoming hosting of the Tri-Nations will be a unique opportunity to see how the Philippine Futsal scene has grown over the past two years.”

PFF Futsal Department Head Kevin Goco hailed the development of Women’s Futsal in the country through the tutelage of Futsal consultant and head coach of the Women’s National Futsal Team, Vic Hermans.

“The staging of the PFF Women’s Tri-Nation Futsal Invitational is the next step for us in fostering futsal as a viable sport in the Philippines,” said Goco. “We hope that this competition help us build good relationships between the participating teams and would help elevate futsal in the country.”
