The opening weekend of the PFF U15 Boys National Championship 2019 brought on tight matches and exciting finishes across seven (7) venues in the Philippines.
The team from Negros Occidental FA notched their first win in the PFF U15 Boys National Championship after beating the team from Central Visayas RFA, 1-0, in a tight encounter last Saturday 29 June 2019 at the Cebu City Sports Complex in Cebu City, Cebu.
Negros Occidental’s Ryan Monares capitalized on a defensive mishap from Central Visayas to score the game’s only goal in the third minute. The win puts Roland Treyes’ squad at the top of Group E while Martin Ferrer will rue the opportunity to claim their first points on home soil.
Over in Group H, the team from Mount Apo RFA downed the team from Maguindanao, 17-2, at the Notre Dame University in Cotabato City, Maguindanao.
Mount Apo RFA players Rich Paraña (fifth, seventh, 22nd, 27th, 29th, and 30th minutes), Harold Calandria (50th, 61st, 70th, 76th, 80th minutes), Cyrus Princillo (18th, 63rd, 71st minutes) combined for 14 goals. Arnoel Flores (10’), Matt Ceballos (48’), and Arvin Alayon (59’) added gloss to the scoreline.
The match-up between the team from South Cotabato-Sarangani-Gen. Santos City RFA and the team from Sultan Kudarat FA saw the hosts winning, 16-1, at the South Cotabato Sports Complex in Koronadal City, South Cotabato.
Group B action saw the team from NCR FA beating the team from Cavite FA, 6-1, at the Vermosa Sports Hub in Imus, Cavite.
NCR’s Matthias Lozano fired a hat-trick in the seventh, 60th, and 68th minutes. Jose Azur scored two goals in the 54th and 73rd minutes while Martin Merino netted in the 28th minute. Cavite’s Julian Cuenca claimed a consolation goal for the hosts in the 72nd minute.
Group D also played their first set of matches over the weekend. The team from RFA of Camarines Norte came away with an 8-3 win over the team from Central Bicol RFA at the Eco Athletic Field in Daet, Camarines Norte.
The teams from Legazpi-Albay RFA and Federated FA of Masbate squared off in back-to-back matches at the Malilipot High School in Albay. The team from Federated FA of Masbate claimed two wins, 11-0, last Saturday, and 17-0 last Sunday to lead Group D with six points.
Group F saw the Zamboanga match-up between the team from Zamboanga-Basilan-Sulu-Tawi-tawi FA and the team from Zamboanga del Norte-Dipolog RFA figure in a 1-1 draw at the Ateneo de Zamboanga in Zamboanga del Sur.
