Strong showing by Filipinas U15 vs Japan elite youth clubs

The Philippine Women’s Under-15 National Team had a strong and encouraging performance during their recent training camp in Japan, where they faced top youth sides from established Japanese clubs.

The Young Filipinas showcased their growing potential through a series of competitive exhibition matches, registering a dominant 7-0 victory over Gyosei Kokusai on April 6, a narrow 3-4 setback to Urawa Red Diamonds on April 8, and a hard-fought 2-0 win against JEF Chiba United on April 11..

These results highlight both the team’s attacking capability and their resilience against high-level opposition, widely regarded among the best in youth development in Asia.

The Japan training camp forms part of PFF’s long-term strategy to expose young Filipino players to elite football environments at an early stage. Competing against technically disciplined and tactically advanced Japanese counterparts provided invaluable learning experiences for the squad, particularly in areas such as game intelligence, positional play, and decision-making under pressure.

PFF President John Anthony Gutierrez praised the team’s performance and emphasized the importance of such international friendlies in shaping the future of Philippine football.

These young players have shown that they can compete with some of the best in Asia, and that is a very encouraging sign for the future of the Filipinas program. Experiences like this are crucial in building not just skill, but confidence, discipline, and the mentality needed to succeed at the highest level.

More importantly, this U-15 program represents a key layer within a fully integrated national women’s development pathway — connecting grassroots identification and youth development to the Under-17, Under-20, and ultimately the Senior Women’s National Team.

Under this unified direction, each age group is no longer operating in isolation, but as part of a single system with aligned methodology, standards, and long-term objectives. The exposure and experience gained at the U-15 level are designed to accelerate player readiness for higher age groups, ensuring continuity in playing style, mentality, and performance expectations.

team manager Selu Lozano, who also manages the Filipinas U17 squad set to compete in the 2026 AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup, told pff.org.ph.

We are connecting the under-15s to the under-17s, eventually to the under-20s, and eventually to the seniors. So we have one symmetrical alignment on the platform, then also build the grassroots,” Lozano added.

Despite their young age, the Filipinas U-15 displayed composure and cohesion throughout the camp, reflecting the steady progress of grassroots and youth development programs in Philippine football. The narrow defeat to Urawa Red Diamonds and the decisive win against JEF Chiba United–coming from Japan’s top-tier clubs–underscored the team’s ability to compete toe-to-toe with two of Japan’s most respected youth setups.

PFF remains committed to providing continuous development opportunities for its youth national teams, ensuring a sustainable pipeline of talent for the senior Filipinas squad in the years to come.
