The National Men’s Team won a historic victory against Bahrain with a 2-1 score last night at the Philippine Sports Stadium for their first match in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia (TM) – Asian Qualifiers / AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 (TM) Qualifiers (Round 2).
After a scoreless first half with both teams failing to convert their attempts, the Philippines opened the scoreline on the 50th minute. Phil Younghusband crossed the ball from the left flank of the attacking third which found Misagh Bahadoran in the keeper’s area for a one-touch volley. Javier Patino scored the 2nd goal with a solid shot during a scramble in the penalty box following a free kick. Bahrain managed to score during stoppage time for the final score of 2-1.
Around 6,000 fans watched the match.
This is the Philippines first win against Bahrain in their Group H campaign. They will face Yemen on June 16 and Uzbekistan and North Korea in the coming months:
