Reigning Philippines Football League champions Ceres Negros FC are still over the moon following their thrilling 3-2 upset win over Brisbane Roar in the AFC Champions League Preliminary Round 2 last 23 January 2018.
Bienvenido Marañon scored twice while Omid Nazari struck another in the win that created waves across the globe.
“I feel so happy, not just for me that I scored two goals, but I feel really happy for the team because this club is amazing,” said Marañon, who was named Man of the Match in the win. “We are doing everything good in the last few years.”
Head coach Risto Vidakovic hailed the efforts of his players in the win especially after going a goal down in the first half.
“I’m really proud of my players, especially because we are still not prepared for these kind of games,” said Vidakovic. “I’m proud of them. They fought and they deserved to win.”
With the win, Ceres will face Chinese Super League side Tianjin Quanjian on 30 January 2018 in the play-off round to determine which team qualifies for the group stage. The team arrived in China this morning. Kick off is at 3:30 PM.
“We have to treat the Tianjin game like this one. We have to enjoy it, try to compete with them, and we don’t have pressure,” added Vidakovic. “That’s the good thing for us. Whatever we do, if we get a good result, for us it’s a plus.”
