Ceres Negros FC needed a late second half comeback to draw Singaporean side Home United in the AFC Cup, 1-1, last Tuesday 27 February 2018 at the Jalan Besar Stadium.
It was the Negros side’s first draw in the competition after blanking Boeung Ket Angkor in their first match.
Bienvenido Marañon hit the post form the penalty spot in the 9th minute after Patrick Reichelt was fouled in the box.
Home United capitalized on the missed effort to take a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute. Shahril Ishak converted the penalty after Sean Kane committed a foul in the box.
With a first defeat looming against a familiar foe, Manuel Herrera stepped up for the equalizer in the 79th minute to share the points between the two sides.
“We expected a very hard game,” said Ceres head coach Risto Vidakovic. “Its never easy to play in this pitch because its very hard. But after what we saw in the first half, I can be happy with the draw. We didn’t play good in the first half but we improved in the second. I think that 1-1 is a good result for us.”
Ceres next face Myanmar side Shan United on 6 March 2018 at the Pana-ad and Park Football Stadium.
