It was a memorable return to the Philippine Women’s National Team for Maria Luisa Park.
The midfielder, whose mother Mavee De Vera Park hails from Metro Manila, rejoined the squad in time for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Jordan 2018 and has played her part in the 2-1 win over Jordan last Friday (Saturday Manila time).
The win was thrilling for the midfielder especially as they were playing the host nation in their opening match of the tournament.
“It was motivational to be in front of such a great crowd with a ton of people supporting women’s football,” said Park. “It was a great feeling and we all wanted to be on that big stage.”
Park, who made her WNT debut in 2013, admitted that it has been refreshing to be part of the team once again.
“It’s different coming back as an older player,” explained Park. “You want to have fun (playing) and enjoy the game as much as you can. It’s a different motivation for me coming back (to play for the country).”
With a win under their belt, Park understands that the tournament has just started and their job is to qualify for the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019.
“We’re happy with this win, but we know the job isn’t done yet,” expressed Park. “We knew the game against Jordan was a big determinant in going forward and our attitude for the rest of the tournament.”
