Defending Philippines Football League champions Ceres Negros FC mark their return to the AFC Cup Zonal semifinals with a match against Myanmar side Yangon United on Wednesday 9 May 2018 at the Pana-ad Park and Football Stadium in Bacolod, Negros Occidental.
The Negros-based club advanced to the zonal semifinals as the best second placed team among the three ASEAN Zone groups after finishing behind Home United in Group F.
Yangon United will be the second Myanmar based team that Ceres will face in the tournament. Ceres faced Shan United in the AFC Champions League preliminary round and in the AFC Cup group stages.
In the other semifinal match-up, Singaporean side Home United will face Indonesian team Persija Jakarta.
“It is a special game because this is semifinals, this is the first leg,” said Ceres head coach Risto Vidakovic. “We’ve played these kind of games already against big opponents. This game will be different and something special. We can reach the final again. We can play big games and we can go forward.”
“The team spirit at the moment is good, its very high,” said defender Junior Muñoz. “We will just do our jobs and follow the Coach’s plan and we hope to make Bacolod happy.”
