Philippines Football League side Ceres Negros FC advanced to the AFC Cup ASEAN Zonal final despite yielding to Yangon United, 3-2, last Wednesday at the Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar.
Goals from Manny Ott (8th minute) and Bienvenido Marañon (78th minute) were enough to send the Negros side through, 6-5 on aggregate despite the Spanish top scorer getting sent off in the 81st minute.
Yangon United, however did not give up and found the back of the net 2nd, 83rd, and 87th minutes to put pressure on Ceres.
“I’m proud of my players,” said Ceres head coach Risto Vidakovic. “They did everything to get to the Finals and they deserve it.”
Ceres will face Home United in the ASEAN Zonal final this August.
