Football in the Philippines is seen as one of the fastest growing sport in the country following the conclusion of The Business of Football – Philippines conference held last 18 May 2018 at the New World Hotel in Makati City.
Organized by MMC Sportz and sanctioned by the Philippine Football Federation, the conference provided the presentations and panel discussions from 21 leading sports experts from the PFF, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), the Philippines Football League (PFL), La Liga, and other agencies, brands, investors, and football orgranizers.
Over 185 participants from various sectors attended the conference in a bid to firmly stamp football, presenting viable business options in the country.
Among the key findings of the conference was that television coverage of the matches can bring fans to the stadium. In addition, the success brought on by the Philippine Men’s and Women’s National Teams which qualified for the AFC Asian Cup and the AFC Women’s Asian Cup was seen as the springboard to grow football. The Philippines Football League, which serves as the highest level of football competition in the country must also continue in order to raise the profile of the sport in the country. MyPFF, the PFF’s football registration system, is also an integral part of football growth as it will provide the PFF with relevant data for grassroots and youth development.
PFF general secretary Atty. Edwin Gastanes, who discussed the state of football in the Philippines, hailed the success of the conference and has issued a call to the private sectors to invest in the sport.
“We thank MMC Sportz for hosting The Business of Football – Philippines conference. The conference provided the backdrop for sports enthusiasts, companies, football fans, and stakeholders for a better understanding of the careers, opportunities and business potentials that football can offer,” said Gastanes. “Football, as it stands, still has challenges, but with the help of the private sector, the growth of the sport in the country will continue.”
