Green Archers United FC and the University of Santo Tomas won their respective games in the PFF Women’s League last Saturday, October 13 at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.
GAU finally notched their first win after five outings with a close 1-0 win over OutKast FC.
Kyla Inquig’s 25th minute goal was enough for coach Elvin Marcellana’s squad, who moved out of the bottom of the table after starting the season with just 2 points from their first four matches.
“The girls had a good game, especially Kyla Inquig, she was a big factor,” said Marcellana on his match-winning midfielder who only played for the first time this season.
With OutKast’s loss, UST took full advantage and routed the University of the Philippines, 4-0 to go five points clear at the top of the table with their sixth straight win.
Mika Punzalan found the back of the net in the 17th and the 31st minute for a first half brace, and leading goalscorer Shelah Cadag netted her 21st goal deep into stoppage time for a 3-0 halftime lead for the Tigresses.
“This is one of the best games for us because we have seen what UP is capable off, but the the players managed well on the field. The composure was there not only from the players, but collectively as a team,” said UST head coach Prescila Rubio.
In the second half, Lalaine Durano scored in the 88th minute to complete the scoreline.
