Philippine professional football club Ceres Negros FC missed on a chance to advance to the next round of the AFC Champions League Preliminary Round after yielding to Yangon United, 1-2, last Tuesday 5 February 2019 at the Pana-ad Park and Football Stadium in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.
The loss relegated the Negros club to the AFC Cup 2019 group stages where they, along with Kaya FC Iloilo will represent the country for the tournament.
Yangon United struck first in the 28th minute. Vinicius Miller sent the visitors ahead after a well worked indirect free kick inside the Ceres box.
Looking to mount a comeback, Ceres found the equalizer on the stroke of half-time. Martin Steuble’s cross from the left wing found Stephan Schrock in the box for a well taken strike to put the match level at 1-1.
However, Yangon found a second goal in the 59th minute. Substitute Kaung Htet Soe converted on the chance against Roland Muller.
Two chances from OJ Porteria came close for Ceres in the 68th and 72nd minutes. Bienvenido Maranon almost forced extra time late in the match but sent his shot wide of the post.
Ceres Negros will begin their AFC Cup campaign on 26 February 2019. They are in Group G with Shan United of Myanmar, Becamex Bin Duong of Vietnam, and the second placed team from Indonesia.
