With a spot in the AFF U15 Girls’ Championship 2019 on the line, the Philippine Girls Under-15 Team willed their way against Laos in a 3-1 loss last Sunday, 19 April 2019 at the Institute of Physical Education in Chonburi, Thailand.
Laos found the back of the net in the 1st, 22nd and and 43rd minutes. Despite the 3-0 hole in the second half, the Philippines pulled one back in the 59th minute. Angely Alferez headed in from close after Laos’ defense was caught off guard from the corner kick.
Chances continued to come to the Philippines, but Laos’ held on for the rest of the match to advance to the final.
Missing out on a place in the final, the Philippines remain in the running for a podium finish. The Philippines will face Vietnam in the 3rd/4th place play-off on Tuesday 21 May 2019 at the same venue. The two teams met in the group stage with Vietnam winning 2-0.
The team is supported by both the Philippines Sports Commission and MVP Sports Foundation.
