The Philippine U22 National Team ended their Merlion Cup 2019 campaign in fourth place following a 5-0 loss to Indonesia U22 last Sunday at Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore.
Playing in the 3rd/4th Place Play-off, the Philippines hoped to salvage a win.
However, Indonesia took a 1-0 lead with six minutes into the match.
Midfielder Dylan De Bruycker came close to equalize for the Philippines in the 35th minute, but his effort was saved.
Indonesia went on to score four more goals in the second half to complete the rout.
In the second match, Singapore U22 claimed the Merlion Cup with a 1-0 win over Thailand U22.
The Philippines U22 return to Manila today 10 June 2019. The Merlion Cup served as the team’s third tournament in preparation for the 30th Southeast Asian Games which will be held in Manila this November.
