PFF general secretary Atty. Edwin Gastanes, was appointed by Asian Football Confederation (AFC) as member of the AFC Legal Committee for the term 2019-2023.
This will be Gastanes’ second term as member of the AFC Legal Committee. He previously served as member of the committee for the term 2015-2019.
The AFC Legal Committee is tasked to consider and advise on the management of legal issues that relate to and might reasonably affect the interests of the AFC, in respect of the game of Football, and the Statutes, Rules and Regulations of the AFC or its Member Associations;
The Committee also reports to the Executive Committee on any legal issue identified by the Committee as a matter requiring the attention of the Executive Committee, the Congress or other AFC bodies. It also assists the Executive Committee, the President or the General Secretary, when so required, to obtain legal advice or other legal services from the AFC’s legal advisers and assist in the review of any legal advice provided to the Confederation.
“Football integrity in Asia has been steadily growing,” said Gastanes. “As member of the AFC Legal Committee, I will continue to help improve the football regulatory issuances so as to achieve more clarity of directions by all the various stakeholders including the general public.”
Gastanes is one of three from the Philippines to be appointed in the various AFC standing committees for term 2019-2023. He is joined by PFF president and FIFA Council Member Mariano Araneta, Jr. as chairperson of the AFC Finance Committee and Atty. Guillermo Iroy, Jr. as member of the AFC Disciplinary and Ethics Committee.
