PFF president Mariano Araneta, Jr. has been appointed by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) as chairperson of the AFC Finance Committee for the term 2019-2023.
This will be his second term as chairperson of the AFC Finance Committee having previously served for the term 2015-2019.
Araneta has been elected in April 2019 as member of the AFC Executive Committee for the term 2019-2023 and likewise elected in the same election as FIFA Council member (1 of 6 from Asia) for the term 2019-2023.
Previously, Araneta served as FIFA Council member for 2017-2019.
The AFC Finance Committee is tasked to monitor the financial administration of AFC and advise the AFC Executive Committee on financial matters and asset management. It is also tasked to analyse the AFC budget and financial statements as prepared by the AFC general secretariat for submission to the Executive Committee and the Congress for approval.
“I thank the AFC, and its president Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al-Khalifa, for the trust they have given me as chairperson of the AFC Finance Committee,” said Araneta. “I will duly work for the best interest of all AFC member associations and uphold financial integrity in AFC operations and directions.”
Araneta joins PFF general secretary Atty Edwin Gastanes (AFC Legal Committee Member) and Atty. Guillermo Iroy, Jr. (AFC Disciplinary and Ethics Committee Member) as Filipinos appointed by AFC in the various standing committees.
