Philippine Women’s National Team player Quinley Quezada has completed her move to JEF United Ichihara Chiba Ladies, which will compete in Japan’s first-ever women’s professional football league, the WE (Women Empowerment) League.
Quezada was among the Filipina players nominated in March 2021 by the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) as possible ASEAN player in the WE League.
“When I found out I felt overjoyed! I couldn’t help but jump out of bed and tell my parents the great news,” said Quezada. “I can’t thank the people who’ve helped and supported me throughout this process enough. I’m immensely grateful, excited for this opportunity, and I can’t wait to get started!”
PFF president Mariano Araneta, Jr. and general secretary Atty. Edwin Gastanes congratulated Quezada on her signing to the club, which is scheduled to kick off in September 2021.
“The beautiful game always opens the opportunity for everyone to play at the highest level. We thank the Japan Football Association for their invitation for Quinley to play in the WE League,” said Araneta. “We wish her the best of luck in representing the country in the league.”
“The chance to play overseas allows our women football players to strive for the best,” added Gastanes. “With Quinley set to play in the WE League, may it inspire women’s football players in the country to continue to develop their skills for a chance to play in the international stage.”
