PFL season 2020 champions United City FC missed out on a memorable first AFC Champions League win after settling for a 1-1 draw against Chinese side Beijing FC last Saturday 26 June 2021 at the Bunyodkor Stadium in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Midfielder and captain Stephan Schrock inspired United City to a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute. Schrock fired an inch-perfect shot from just inside the penalty area.
The PFL champions looked to extend their lead but chances from Curt Dizon and Hikaru Minegishi in the second half were denied by the Beijing defense.
The Chinese side were then able to level the match in the 73rd minute from a Liang Shaowen. United City had two late chances to clinch the victory but Bienvenido Marañon and Mark Hartmann’s chances were denied to split the points.
United City will play its second match of the competition against Korean side Daegu FC on Tuesday, 29 June 2021.
