Kaya FC-Iloilo endured a late heartbreak following a 0-1 loss to Thai champions BG Pathum United in the AFC Champions League Group F last Thursday, 08 July 2021 at the BG Pathum Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Kaya pushed the Thai side to the limit, but Sarach Yooyen’s 83rd minute strike broke the spirit of the PFL side, which were in the search of their first points of the competition.
The first half saw Kaya’s defense able to hold BG Pathum to a 0-0 scoreline at the half. Chances from BG Pathum United’s Andres Tunez, Teerasil Dangda, and Diogo Luis Santo were all contained by Kaya.
Kaya grew into the game in the opening minutes of the second half. Midfielder Daizo Horikoshi had two chances to put Kaya ahead in the 46th and 51st minutes but missed the target.
Kenshiro Daniels had the best chance for Kaya in the 70th minute off a cross from Javier Gayoso, but was denied by Chatchai Budprom.
With the clock winding down, BG Pathum United nicked the winner. Kaya defended well from the corner but the ball landed for Sarach, who struck with a low shot to give the Thai side the win.
