The Philippine Men’s National Team absorbed their first loss in the AFF Suzuki Cup 2020 after yielding to hosts Singapore, 1-2, last night at the National Stadium.
Amin Nazari’s 69th minute goal, from a header off a Kevin Ingreso corner, was the lone consolation for the Azkals after Singapore scored two quickfire goals from Hariss Harun and Faris Ramli.
The Azkals withstood Singapore’s attack in the first half before taking control in the opening minutes of the second half.
Singapore switched their attack leading to the two quick goals with Harun slotting it from the corner in the 61st minute and Ramli finishing off the counter-attack two minutes later.
Nazari halved the deficit six minutes later to ensure a grandstand finish. However, the Philippines’ chances late in the match did not materialize into the equalizer ensuring that Singapore come away with the three points.
The Azkals return to action this Saturday against Timor-Leste at 5:30 PM at the National Stadium.
