The Philippine Women’s National Team received a massive boost ahead of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022 when it reached its highest FIFA Women’s Ranking of 64th last Friday, 10 December 2021.
The rise in the rankings was the result of the Women’s National Team’s successful Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers run last September 2021, where the team bested both Nepal and Hong Kong to qualify for the final competition.
The Philippines are set to face Australia, Thailand, and Indonesia in the Women’s Asian Cup which is scheduled for January 2022 in India.
PFF officials were delighted on the ascendancy of the Women’s National Team. The team is currently in Irvine, California, USA for their training camp to determine the final 23 players that will compete in the Women’s Asian Cup under the tutelage of head coach Alen Stajcic.
“The Women’s National Team’s highest FIFA Women’s Rankings is the result of the PFF’s thrust to elevate women’s football in the country,” said PFF president Mariano Araneta, Jr. “As the team continues to move up in the rankings, our goal is to eventually see the team qualify for the FIFA Women’s World Cup.”
“The steady rise in the rankings of the Women’s National Team shows how the players have embraced the challenge and worked hard to scale greater heights,” added PFF general secretary Atty. Edwin Gastanes. “As the rankings improve, we continue to support the team so they can proceed to the next level.”
The Philippine Women’s National Team is supported by Team Manager Jefferson Cheng, the Philippine Sports Commission, and the MVP Sports Foundation.
