Days after finishing their historic AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2022 campaign, the Philippine Women’s National Team were given a fitting welcome by all stakeholders last Sunday.
Speaking during the event, PFF president Mariano Araneta Jr., general secretary Atty. Edwin Gastanes, and team manager Jefferson Cheng thank the team, for their hard work and sacrifice to reach the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
“I’d like to thank all the players and their families for all the sacrifices and hard work they put in into this journey of us, and the coaching staff for having motivated the team to play to the level that we saw in India,” said Araneta.
“It was an excellent display of fitness by our team and we are very proud in PFF of the team and the coaching staff not only because you played your hearts out but because you have inspired a lot of players here in the country,” added Gastanes. “What is very important is that you are bringing the Philippine flag to the FIFA World Cup next year.“
“It’s nice to see everybody with a big smile, and congratulations for qualifying to the World Cup,” furthered Cheng, who has been supporting the team since 2017.
Gastanes also bared that PFF is already preparing for the next three competitions, the 31st Southeast Asian Games, the AFF Women’s Championship 2022 which the Philippines is hosting, and the 2022 Asian Games, which will serve as the team’s preparation for the FIFA Women’s World Cup which will be held in Australia and New Zealand on July-August 2023.
“These are three very good competitions for our team,” added Gastanes. “We hope that a big preparation can be made by the coaching staff as we prepare for the World Cup.”
