The Philippine Women’s National Team and its manager Jefferson Cheng received a congratulatory message from His Excellency President Rodrigo Roa Duterte following the team’s historic campaign in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022 where they qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023.
“My most heartfelt congratulations to the Philippine Women’s Football Team for their superb performance in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup. I thank you for doing your best and I would like you to know that the whole country is proud of you. Congratulations too on your outright ticket to the FIFA Women’s World Cup next year in Australia and New Zealand,” said Duterte in a televised addressed. “It is also fitting that we also acknowledge the important role of your team manager Mr. Jeff Cheng for all that he has done to make this team what is it today. We look forward to more of your victories. Ipinagmamalaki ko kayong lahat. Mabuhay!”
The Philippines finished the competition as semifinalists and is among the six teams from Asia to qualify for the Women’s World Cup alongside Women’s Asian Cup winners China PR, Korea Republic, Japan, Vietnam, and World Cup hosts Australia.
