MANILA — Philippine Football Federation president Mariano Araneta, Jr. commended Philippine Men’s National Team captain Stephan Schrock for his contributions to Philippine football after the midfielder played his final match for the Azkals last night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
“I would like to take the opportunity to thank captain Stephan Schrock for his contributions to the national team for the last 11 years,” said Araneta after Schrock played in the 2-1 defeat to Indonesia in the AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup. “He brought excitement with his playing style and also showed the way for the younger generation of players with his attitude and professional.”
Schrock, who traces his roots in Cebu through his mother, made his debut in June 2011 against Sri Lanka and went on to have 57 appearances for the Philippines, scoring six goals, including the nation’s solitary goal in the AFC Asian Cup 2019.
He was also part of the Philippines Under-23 team that competed in the 30th Southeast Asian Games in Manila and the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam.
The Azkals skipper’s commitment, hard work, and sacrifice to honor the call to represent the national team will serve as inspiration to all aspiring footballers in the country.
“He has built a legacy with his leadership, passion, dedication and love for country. He is always welcome to help the national team,” added Araneta.
