The Philippine Under-17 Women’s National Team secured qualification to the second round of the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup 2024 Qualifiers after a 2-0 win over Lebanon in their final group match last Wednesday 26 April 2023 at the Guam FA National Training Center.
As group winners in the first round, the Philippines will join the other group winners in the second round, to be held on 16-24 September 2023, with the top two teams from each group will advance to the finals to be held next year.
Needing a win to clinch qualification, the Filipinas U17 had numerous chances on goal to take the lead in the first half.
Isabella Alamo gave the Philippines the lead in the 68th minute. A mad scramble in the penalty box allowed the midfielder to slot the ball past the goalkeeper.
Nina Mathelus, who scored a hat-trick in the 3-1 victory over Guam last Saturday, extended the lead in the 90th minute from the penalty spot.
