The Philippine Women’s National Team produced two goals in either half to beat Vietnam, 2-1, in their final group A fixture in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games last Tuesday, 09 May 2023 at the Smart RSN Stadium in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Needing results to go their way to advance to the knockout stages, the Filipinas broke the deadlock in the 13th minute from a Sarina Bolden penalty, who now ties teammate Quinley Quezada with 22 international goals.
However, Vietnam equalized five minutes before the half from Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy.
Hali Long went on to score the winner in the 83rd minute with a header off Sara Eggesvik’s free kick, but with Myanmar winning 5-1 over Malaysia, the Filipinas saw them miss out on a spot to the next round.
