Philippine Football Federation officials congratulated Kaya FC-Iloilo on its Philippines Football League brought to you by Qatar Airways title win last Saturday, 27 May 2023 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Kaya won the league title after besting six other teams in the league and collecting 55 points on the back of 18 wins, 1 draw, and 3 losses. Dynamic Herb Cebu FC, meanwhile, finished in second with 51 points on 15 wins, 6 draws, and 1 loss. Stallion Laguna FC rounded up the top three with 32 points, with a game to spare.
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Kaya FC-Iloilo, its players, coaching staff, and team management, for winning the PFL season 2022-23,” said PFF president Mariano Araneta. “It was fitting that the formal return of competitive professional football reinvigorated all football stakeholders and fans which eventually saw a champion team in Kaya.”
It was also a long overdue title win for the Iloilo side, who have yet to win a league title until last Saturday. Kaya’s title was officially confirmed last Wednesday 24 May 2023 when Stallion inflicted a 0-0 draw against Cebu, which resulted in the Gentle Giants unable to catch Kaya’s point haul.
As league champions, Kaya are now assured of a group stage spot into the AFC Champions League 2023-24 season, while both Cebu and Stallion will set to compete in the AFC Cup 2023-24, subject to the club licensing requirements set forth by AFC and its independent entry control body.
“Kaya FC-Iloilo are worthy league champions as shown in their performance in the league,” added PFF general secretary Atty. Edwin Gastanes, who awarded the league title to the club last Saturday. “It has been a tremendous league season, and we look forward as to what’s next for professional club football here in the country.”
