The Philippine Football Federation welcomes the announcement of Cignal TV Inc., which secured the broadcast rights to the FIFA Women’s World Cup in the country, giving the country an opportunity to watch the Philippines Women’s National Team make history in the biggest women’s sporting event in the world.
The announcement comes just a few days before the Filipinas debut match in the FIFA Women’s World Cup against Switzerland on July 21 in Dunedin, New Zealand.
“This is an exciting development for football fans in the Philippines with the Filipinas’ matches in the FIFA Women’s World Cup to be shown live on free television and other platforms of Cignal TV,” said PFF president Mariano “Nonong” Araneta.
“Cignal stepped up and made sure that the Filipinas’ historic campaign will be available in the Philippines. This is not just a historic moment for the Filipinas but for the entire country and having a broadcaster ensures that we all enjoy the moment together.”
The preliminary round games of the Philippine National team will be made available on free-to-air via One Sports (free-to-air Ch. 41 and Cignal Ch.6) and also available for free via Cignal’s newest OTT platform, Pilipinas Live. Sports fans can download the app via Apple Store & Google Play Store to have the chance to watch all the matches of the Filipinas anytime, anywhere on any device.
“Cignal is very happy to be able to provide the much needed coverage for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup on our platforms. We recognized the demand Filipinos have for this quadrennial event and we at Cignal TV always want to be able to bring the best experience to all our viewers,” said MediaQuest Holdings Inc. & Cignal TV President & CEO Jane Jimenez Basas
PFF general secretary Atty. Edwin Gastanes thanked Cignal for its commitment in showcasing the Filipinas in the country’s first ever participation in the World Cup.
“This year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup is the biggest one yet and for Filipinos, it really is more meaningful because we are represented there and the Philippine flag will fly proudly amongst those of 31 other countries,” said Gastanes.
“Having a broadcaster in the Philippines goes a long way in our efforts in promoting The Beautiful Game.”
PWNT team manager Jefferson Cheng also hailed Cignal’s acquisition of broadcast rights to the Filipinas’ matches.
“We are grateful to Cignal for making sure that Filipinos eager to support the PWNFT at the Women’s World Cup now have one less thing to fret about,” said Cheng. “Cignal surely made a lot of people happy today. Maraming salamat.”
