The Philippine Football Federation would like to assure everyone that the Philippine Women’s National Team, popularly known as the Filipinas, are safe from harm following a shooting incident that occurred this morning in Central Business District of Auckland, New Zealand.
According to reports, there was a shooting incident in Auckland CBD at around 7:00 AM New Zealand time (3:00 AM Philippine time), near the Philippine team’s base camp. Fortunately the team delegation, as well as other teams billeted in nearby areas, were not affected and are unharmed.
A few hours ago, the Filipinas have arrived in Dunedin, New Zealand ahead of their opening fixture in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 against Switzerland tomorrow at 5:00 PM local time (1:00 PM Philippine time) at Dunedin Stadium.
PFF requests sports and football fans, stakeholders and the general public to continue their support to the team and pray for well-being and safety of all the players and team staff in the Philippines’ maiden Women World Cup campaign.
