The clash between Kaya FC-Iloilo and Manila Digger FC saw both teams battle it out to a scoreless draw in Monday’s PFF Women’s League 2023 sponsored by Coca-Cola Philippines at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.
With a spot top of the league standings on the line, neither Kaya nor Digger were able to capitalize on the opportunity to leapfrog leaders Far Eastern University in the race for the top four.
The best chance of the match fell into the hands of Kaya’s Charisa Lemoran in the 43rd minute. However, her left-footed strike from just inside the penalty area hit off the woodwork. Shelah Cadag and Camille Rodriguez had their chances to convert the rebound, but were unable to send the ball to the back of the net.
Kaya were the more dominant side in the second half, but Manila Digger held their lines to secure the draw.
The other match saw the University of the Philippines beat the University of Santo Tomas, 3-2, in the opening fixture.
Bianca Torres and Aurea Reaso gave UP the dream start with goals in the third and fourth minutes. Stephanie Logastua reduced the deficit in the 27th minute, but Hannah Murros answered right back with UP’s third five minutes later.
Christy Logastua once again trimmed UP’s lead in the 75th minute to mount a comeback, but UP held on to preserve the win.
