Far Eastern University moved back to the top of the standings after a 3-1 win over University of Santo Tomas in Saturday’s PFF Women’s League sponsored by Coca-Cola Philippines at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.
FEU banked on a strong first half performance to go 19 points, with a superior goal difference over erstwhile leader Manila Digger FC.
“We prepared the mindset of the girls in order to progress to the knockout stage,” said FEU assistant coach Kim Versales. “We planned well even if we’re not able to train properly, but we got the result and we’re lucky to get the win.”
Midfielder Regine Rebosura netted a brace in the 13th and 15th minutes while Janly Fontamillas found the back of the net in the 27th minute for FEU.
FEU’s Kyla Doctora was named Player of the Match in the win.
“We just followed the system prepared by the coaches,” said Doctora. “It’s also great that each one of us followed the instructions of the coaches to get the win.”
UST claimed a consolation goal from Judy Prado in the 19th minute.
The other match saw University of the Philippines collect their second win at the expense of Stallion Laguna FC, 4-0.
Anya Fuentes (32’), Bianca Torres (36’), and a brace from Aurea Reaso in the 39th and 41st minute was enough for the Fighting Maroons to go up to seven points in the standings.
