The Philippines Men’s National Team settled for a 1-1 draw against Indonesia in their second match of the FIFA World Cup 2026/AFC Asian Cup 2027 Preliminary Joint Qualification Round 2, Tuesday, 21 November 2023 before a crowd of 9,880 spectators at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.
Following their 0-2 loss to Vietnam last Thursday, Coach Michael Weiss viewed this as a crucial match which can dictate their chances of qualifying to the next round.
Key chances from Manny Ott and OJ Porteria in the first half came begging as the Philippines piled on their chances to ensure their dominance in the match.
The pressure paid off as Patrick Reichelt broke the deadlock in the 24th minute. Kevin Ingreso, who missed the match against Vietnam, found Reichelt with the neat through ball, which allowed the winger to finish from close range.
However, Indonesia found their form in the second half culminating in the equalizer from Saddil Ramdani in the 70th minute.
With both sides trying to find the winner, Santiago Rublico fired a curling effort on goal on the stroke of stoppage time, but his shot was denied by the cross bar.
The result leaves the Philippines with one point in Group F, with a home-and-away series against Iraq awaiting them on the second international window on March 2024.
