Coming off a historic 2023, the Philippine Women’s National Team was bestowed by the Philippine Sportswriters Association with the Special Golden Lady Booters Award during the PSA Awards Night held Monday 29 January 2024 at the Diamond Hotel in Manila.
“The past year has been nothing short of historic for the Philippine Women’s National Team, and we thank the Philippine Sportswriters Association for this award for the Filipinas,” said PFF president John Gutierrez. “Their success in the world stage bids well for the country as they are a source of inspiration of all aspiring football athletes.”
PWNT Team Manager Jefferson Cheng accepted the special award from the country’s sportswriters association together with PFF General Secretary Angelico Mercader and PFF Director of Football Vince Santos.
“The past few years have been an incredibly special time for all of us at the team,” said Cheng. “It has been an honor to be part of this group of hardworking, respectful, humble and grateful young women who could not be more proud to represent the Philippines.”
PWNT forward Sarina Bolden was also named Ms. Football for her goalscoring feat last year as she became the first Filipino player to score a goal in the FIFA Women’s World Cup in the 1-0 win against New Zealand.
“It has been a crazy past two years and we could not have done it if not for the team,” said Bolden. “I hope we continue growing and making the country proud for what we have been doing so far.”
