The Philippines held Indonesia scoreless for 65 minutes but the young Garuda found their groove late in the game, scoring three goals in the last 25 minutes in the second Group A match in the 2024 ASEAN Under-16 Boys Championship in Surakarta on Monday evening.
Evandra Florasta knocked the opener in the 65th minute, striking off Peter Mirasol’s block of Daniel Alfrido’s strike.
Mochamad Mierza then scored a brace with his first goal off a counterattack in the 71st minute and another off the rebound in the 90+2nd minute.
Jimm Leowell Fabila and Michael James Manit had their shots in the first half but both were off target.
Despite this result, the Philippines has conceded the least goals (-6) in its first two games since 2017 in the regional tournament.
The Philippines will still vie to replicate its 2022 win against Singapore on Thursday, June 27, at 8:30 PM (Philippine time).
