Rey Ritaga will be officiating in the FIFA Futsal World Cup in Colombia which kicks off on 10 September 2016. Retaga is among eight other referees who have been chosen by the AFC referees department to participate in the world championship held every four years on the even year between two football world cups. He will be joining appointed match officials from Kyrgistan, Japan, China, UAE, Australia, Philippines, Vietnam, and Iran.
“I feel proud because it is the first time for a Filipino referee to officiate in this level of competition. Representing the country in in the World Cup is the highest form of achievement so this opportunity means a lot.”
Ritaga went on a high-alitutude training in Kalinga before departing for Colombia on 03 September 2016, to get accustomed with Colombia’s high sea level setting. He has been an AFC Futsal referee since 2006.
