Philippines Football League side Ceres-Negros FC was crowned the AFC Cup 2017 ASEAN Zone champions after a frantic 2-0 win over Singaporean side Home United last Wednesday 9 August 2017 in front of a sell out crowd at the Panaad Stadium.
Goals from OJ Porteria in the second minute and a Manny Ott free kick in the 41st minute were enough for Ceres-Negros to overturn a 1-2 first leg defeat into a 3-2 aggregate win.
PFF President Mariano V. Araneta and PFF General Secretary Atty. Edwin Gastanes hailed Ceres-Negros for their massive achievement for Philippine football.
“We are honored with what Ceres-Negros FC have done for Philippine football,” said PFF president Mariano V. Araneta. “We wish them luck in the AFC Cup Inter-zone semifinals.”
Ceres-Negros will face Tajikistan side Istiklol in the Inter-zone semi-final which begins on 22 August 2017.
