Philippine Women’s National Team head coach Letecia “Buda” Bautista was overwhelmed once she got word that she is shortlisted for the AFC Women’s Coach of the Year.
Bautista is one among three Women’s head coaches to get the nod of AFC for the AFC Annual Awards which will be held on 29 November 2017 in Bangkok, Thailand.
“I was overwhelmed, flattered and thankful for being in the shortlist of the AFC Women’s Coach of the Year,” said Bautista. “I have just always been wanting to excel in what I do, but this one appears to be a bonus. When I worked I give my best effort, without expecting anything in recognition, showing my love for the beautiful game.”
The announcement came after Bautista steered the Women’s team to a berth to the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Jordan 2018 final round. Bautista credited the entire team in their campaign in Tajikistan after posting three wins, one draw and one loss during the Qualifiers held in Tajikistan last April 2017.
“I believe they were able to show their belief in the team, i.e. trusting each other, trusting the coaches and the whole organization,” added Bautista. “With this, they have shown cohesiveness and good communication in and out of the field.”
Bautista also believes that her being part of the coaches shortlisted for the plum will help encourage women’s football coaches across the country.
“Never stop learning, because coaching profession is a process. Always find ways to improve and further your knowledge,” continued Bautista. “Have someone that will mentor you and of course surround yourself with positive or good support system. Above all, patience is really a virtue.”
