Philippines Football League side Ceres Negros FC capped off a memorable season after winning the inaugural Philippines Football League last night at the Pana-ad Park and Football Stadium.
Ceres defeated Global Cebu FC, 4-1, on the night that Iain Ramsay found the back of the net three times in the 20th, 27th, and 61st minutes. Bienvenido Marañon scored the opening goal in the 4th minute.
Darryl Roberts gave Global a consolation goal, but it was Ceres who ultimately came away with the title in front of a capacity crowd in Pana-ad.
The PFL championship was the highlight of a banner year for the Negros-based club after being crowned the AFC Cup ASEAN Zone champions last August.
Philippine Football president Mariano Araneta Jr. hailed Ceres Negros’ achievement after 112 Regular Season Matches and 4 semifinal matches.
“We congratulate Ceres Negros FC on their inaugural Philippines Football League championship,” said Araneta. “After a long season, Philippines Football League finally has a deserving champion in its inaugural season.”
